Advocating with Chairperson of NCPCR on Unconditional Maternity Benefits

Carrying forward the effort to remove the two-child norm from the maternity benefits schemes, the National Coalition against Two-Child Norm and Coercive Population Policies arranged for a meeting with the Chairperson of the NCPCR (National Commission for the Protection for Child Rights), Dr. Shantha Sinha, on 1st of April 2013. Accompanying the Coalition representatives were NAMHHR Convenor Jashodhara and the India Alliance for Child Rights, Razia Ismail.

NAMHHR's materials including the policy brief on maternity entitlements, were handed over to the NCPCR Chairperson, and her support requested in addressing the central and state governments on the inherent discrimination  against children who are third or more in birth order, especially children from the poorest and most vulnerable social groups who need additional social support.

The Chairperson has promised to take up the issue, and also agreed to participate in any advocacy event that may be organized on this question.
