The Ministry of Women and Child Development in collaboration
with the Ministry of Labour and Employment organised a day long consultation on
the Maternity Benefit Act on the 2nd of July 2013.
NAMHHR convener, Ms. Jashodhara Dasgupta was invited for the
event and was requested to make a presentation on “Findings from recent
civil society study of IGMSY maternity benefit scheme - Pilot Phase.” The
Hon. Minister of WCD was present and NAMHHR policy brief and and study report
based on IGMSY findings were shared with her.
The Secretary of WCD showed interest in the presentation and
invited Ms. Dasgupta to the WCD department on the 3rd of July
to brief her Senior Adviser on the IGMSY recommendations following which NAMHHR
convener meet the Adviser. The Adviser was impressed and wanted to follow
the MoHFW example of removing the two-child disqualification from their scheme.
